How do we make sure our students’ voices are heard? How can they express what they feel, experience, and are passionate about, while also sharing it with our entire community?
The Scoop is much more than a school magazine. It is a space created by and for our Middle and High School students, where they can choose the topics they want to explore, write their own articles, and take part in the design and development of each edition. Additionally, students from all grade levels have the opportunity to share their writing and be part of this publication. Above all, it is a space where our students can make their voices heard, express their ideas, and exercise their agency.

The Scoop was created in 2007, when different generations of students, with the guidance of teacher Edward Moore, began publishing the first digital editions. In 2009, the first print edition was published, and since then, The Scoop has continued to grow alongside the students who are part of it. Today, we publish three editions each year. Each one reflects a part of our community: its interests, questions, ideas, talents, and different ways of seeing the world.
Why is student voice important?
Education also means creating spaces where our students can develop and express their own voice. Writing, creating, and sharing their ideas allows them to develop essential skills such as creativity, critical thinking, and communication. But it also conveys something even more important: their experiences, opinions, and perspectives matter.
When a student has the opportunity to propose a topic, research, write, and share her ideas, she moves beyond simply receiving content and becomes a creator and an active participant in her own learning process.
At Las Pachas, we believe in the importance of creating these spaces as part of a well-rounded education. Spaces where our students can make decisions, take responsibility, listen to different perspectives, and discover how much they have to contribute to their community.
The Scoop: Learning by Doing and Making Your Voice Heard
The Scoop is also a learning experience: behind every edition are questions, conversations, research, writing, editing, creativity, and teamwork. Each student finds different ways to participate and contribute based on her own interests and talents. Because when we give them a space to speak, write, and create, we also give them the opportunity to exercise their agency, build their confidence, and discover the impact their ideas can have.
